Content Development Services

Hi! I’m M.E. Carter. Most people know my name from the books I’ve written in the last ten years. I currently have over thirty self-published books on the market, including several Amazon bestsellers. I have translations in multiple countries, some of which have hit the Top 10 on Amazon and Apple Books in those countries. I have several audiobooks available as well.

What most people don’t know, though, is that my passion lies beyond writing my own stories. It’s in helping other authors bring their stories to life. It’s in providing honest and valuable content and developmental feedback to bolster confidence in their work. I have always done this in addition to writing, but now I’m expanding this service and my availabilities.

Whether it’s talking an author through a mental block, providing suggestions on how to expand a story that needs updating, or pointing out plot holes that need to be addressed, I love using the skills I’ve learned as an author to help guide others.

What exactly is content development? It includes everything listed above, but also goes deeper into pointing out problematic areas, identifying shortfalls in character and story arc development, and offering suggestions on how to modify those areas in a way that won’t lose
your voice. This isn’t my book baby, it’s yours. And as such, the goal is to never lose the part of your writing that is unique to you.

Do you do content/line editing?

No. Line editing isn’t my strong suit and I want you to have the best quality product you can have. My focus is on the development of the story and the characters. However, I have some amazing contacts and can refer you to several people to help with content and line editing, as well as proofreading.

How long does it take you to complete your reading?

I allot one week per project, however, typically, my turnaround time is three days from when I receive the initial payment. This fluctuates depending on the length of the manuscript.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel?

I’m a single mom raising four kids. If anyone understands how life “happens” sometimes, it’s me. I’m extremely flexible with rescheduling and canceling. However, priority is given to on-time clients and unfortunately, I can’t guarantee a future time slot should you cancel.

Do you have references?

Of course! Here are some of the authors I’ve worked with who are more than happy to give feedback on my process:

Lauren Runow
Melissa McClone
Brenda Rothert
Andrea Johnston

How can I schedule an appointment with you?

It’s as easy as sending me an email.

You can send it directly to authormecarter@gmail.com. Or go to the contact page on this website that generates an email to me.

How much do you charge?

My current rate is $0.0055 per word.

What does that include?

One pass on your book with track changes and comment boxes for easy viewing while making
revisions. I’ll also provide an email overview of the most important main points. If you need more, a 30-minute Zoom call to discuss my suggestions in more detail is available.

When is the payment due?

I will invoice you as soon as I receive a completed Word doc from you. This is to ensure I have the correct word count to invoice from. 50% is due as a deposit immediately. I will not begin working on your project until that payment is received. The remaining 50% is due upon
completion, and before I return your completed project. If I do not receive the initial payment within two days, I reserve the right to move on to another client.

Do you have samples of your work?

No. Due to copyright issues and piracy, I do not send out any author’s work. You are always welcome to contact the references listed on this page.

What My Clients Say...

Melissa McClone, Author

I've used Chelle on over twenty manuscripts that reverted to me from a publisher. She went over them to give me content ideas on how to rewrite and expand the word count. She was so helpful and gave me more feedback than I expected. Highly recommend. I have more for her to do. She's that good!
